Yes, we SHOULD. We have to be a light in all we do! It is hard, tho... cause a lot of dirt in there. But we are called to take the Spirit with us and fight the darkness. So I say YES. Sometimes you gotta create what you want to be a part of!
I say no. Was Jesus involved in politics? Or the apostles? The early church? Nope. Be in the world but not of the world.
Personally my ruler is Jesus. Not the government. I think our Great Commission was to spread the gospel.
1Cr 2:6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
When "true" christians had to fight against Slavery of african people, they had to get involved in politics? didn't they? I recently watched the film amazing grace.
Jesus stayed very clear of all politics in his ministry Why? Because he could Not be seen as a part of this world..plus it was not yet his time for his Governorship rule in the Kingdom of God. But just like King David and KIng Solomon were into politics for example those were called to have a kingdom rule by God. I do believe There are also some very good people who do get into this when they too are called. These people can make a positive change if they allowed God alone, to be the head over them guiding their every move, thought or idea in their work...they could help greatly many by the power they have been given to all those who are suffering and struggling within their prospective countries etc, instead of down pressing the people, they can choose to rule in righteousness and not only for power and money. This is when God gets the Glory.
Isaiah 9 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
5 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given:
And the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.
HE WILL JUDGE AND RULE FAIRLY WITH lOVE AND WITH GREAT MERCY BUT, WITH A ROD OR IRON CLEAR OVER ALL WHO WILL STILL TRY TO RESIST AND DIS OBEY HIS COMMANDS.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
8 The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.
That will be in his second coming as he judges and rules with his chosen elected Saints, over all the earth after cutting off the power of Satan as written and revealed within the Book of Revelation.
Revelation 20 King James Bible
1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
David was King isn't that politics....Deborah was a judge again politics....I don't believe church and state should be separate in fact I think church ought to be in state and vice versa....maybe then we will see more abiding citizens and less abortion, anti religious laws etc.
The reason why we are witness such demoralization is because the church and state are so far away from each other when they ought to be related or co-existing side by side. Men of old realized this that’s why the laws are partly based on the Ten Commandments.
I believe the distinction should be seen in whom consults whom for help...the church depends on God for help and the state depends on the Church for direction/help since the church is suppose to be Jesus body on earth for.
When Constanstine decided that He would give the "Church" of his choosing tax breaks, that was the beginning of the Church becoming part of "State" it was wrong. It is wrong.
When Jesus was crucified the Jews had started a rebellion against the Roman occupation of Israel. Did the Apostles or Jesus take up arms and defend their country? No.
We are to be In the world but not Of the World.
David, was King, ordained by God. Big difference there Candle.
A Judge of the LORD. Not politics. :)
The Bible says, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for ... what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?" (2 Corinthians 6:14-15).
Political parties are made up of unbelievers. The Christian who joins a political party is yoked with them. For this reason, a Christian should never join a political party.
Should a Christian Serve as a Government Official?
Of those in authority the Bible says: "For he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil" (Romans 13:4).
But the Bible commands Christians: "Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath" (Romans 12:19).
The government receives from God the authority to revenge and punish. A Christian does not avenge himself-but leaves vengeance to his just God. Obviously, Christians and the government take opposing positions on vengeance.
A Christian cannot fulfill the government's duties because he obeys the Bible and does not take vengeance on evildoers. Therefore, a Christian should not be a policeman, mayor, or any other government official.
