It is amazing to me just how many people, who claim to love the Lord and serve Him, only adhere to the New Testament. We are under grace so therefore, the Old Testament is null and void...is it?
Let's give an example here, God wants us to support Israel with our prayers and keep her close in heart. I don`t believe that is talked much about in the New Testament but it is so prevalent in the Old. Just because it is in the OT, does that mean we no longer have to bless Israel? God said those that bless her He will bless and those that curse her He will curse. But that is the OT and no longer applies...right? The same with paying tithes...it no longer applies. The 10 commandments no longer applies. It only gives us an idea of what is sin to God, but no longer applies.Incest was deemed wrong in the eyes of God BY God in the OT...so because it is in the OT, it no longer applies...right? It is amazing to me how many, no matter whether it is OT or NT, pick and choose what they are going to do to serve the Lord and what they are going to apply to their life.
Oh...I can do this..it isn`t mentioned in the NT and besides, Jesus died for my sins and I`ll be forgiven...right? To me, that is lapping God in the face and taking advantage of Jesus. Think about it.
If you love the Lord and have the Spirit of the Lord, why would you deny Him anything that He asked?
Jesus came to fulfill the law, not to abolish it. The thing is...NO ONE can completely OBEY the laws, so Jesus came, died for us because no one is perfect. But does that mean we shouldn`t try to be? Does that mean we should totally disregard the law? I don`t think so. I think, because we make mistakes, Jesus came to give us forgiveness for those mistakes. It doesn`t mean we can totally disregard what God commanded...EVER.
The only things that I know of that were deemed acceptable is the fact that we, as gentiles, were raised differently and had different customs as far as eating meat and circumcision. In the NT, it was not made mandatory to do this because of the fact that we are not Jewish. But in any event, I still gave up pork. In I Timothy 4:1-5 food was sanctified by the Word of God and prayer.
The Lord has been dealing with me in many things. Tithes are mentioned in the OT way more than in the NT. Homosexuality was mentioned in the OT way more than in the NT. Incest as well, but because they are in the OT and not the NT does than mean we can disregard those laws? God forbid. Jesus came to die for our sins because God knew that it would be impossible for everybody to totally keep the law. Being human and imperfect, giving into the flesh at times, Jesus made a way for us to get to heaven through His death, mercy and grace. Those that were sinners, should they change their mind and turn to Jesus, have a way of being forgiven. If it wasn`t for Jesus, there would not have been any way that a mistake or a weak moment would have been forgiven.
It is something to think about and pray on. As I said, if you have the Spirit of the Lord and you truly love Him, HOW can you deny Him His commands? His wishes? Oh..it is not in the NT so it no longer applies...think again or keep slapping Jesus in His Holy Face and putting Him to death over and over again. God help us all and reveal His truth to us all.
Anyone that cannot try to obey the law as well as the NT...I pity. For they only THINK they love the Lord or they only obey out of fear of going to hell...if they truly LOVED Him, it would not matter if it was in the OT or the NT obedience to Him would be first in their heart and on their mind. Think about it...pray on it, let the Spirit of the Lord lead you into understanding.
My mother said 3 years ago, that she didn`t like something I did and demanded I don`t do it again. But there was a new contract and under this new contract, if I made a mistake, she would forgive me and be lenient n me because she loves me THAT mush, she would show me mercy and grace...because of the new contract, I can forget what she said 3 years ago and do what I want. Hurt her over and over again...right? WRONG! I pray SOMEONE is taking this to heart. Those that want to argue over OT and NT...what is mentioned in each and what applies now days, I pity. God forgive me...they SICKEN me...and for THIS purpose...Jesus died so that I may be forgiven because of those that REPULSE me by their actions and speech and beliefs...THINKING they are Christians and love the Lord, but can`t even obey Him...obedience is better than sacrifice.
As I told you before, or must I say it in a different language, it is between YOU and GOD. Obey NONE of it if that is your choice. What you choose to do and don`t do, what you choose to apply or don`t, the path you walk you will be judged by when you stand before God. I guess it all depends on how MUCH you love Him and what you choose to do FOR HIM out of love. I am sure when you seek Gods face and ask Him, He will show you the way as He did me...through willingness to listen to His voice, seek His face, and through conviction of His Holy Spirit.
After giving instructions to completely destroy a town, including its people and livestock, should the people of Israel be enticed to turn to the worship of foreign gods? Moses tells the people: Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the Lord will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors.
The Lord your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him. Deuteronomy 13:12-18 NLT
A sincere heart
These verses make it clear that God's mercy is extended to those whose hearts are sincere. The Israelites were headed for a land that, much like our society today, was infested with materialism, the craving of creature comforts and "the good life." God is not interested in sharing his mercy with those who simply need a quick fix for the problems their sinful lifestyles have created. Such people have no intention of accepting God's mercy as a new lease on life; they are simply looking for a way to save themselves from deserved consequences.
God wants to show us abundant mercy, but he is looking for those who will gratefully accept it and allow it to change the way they live. Do you want God's mercy as a quick fix or as a permanent new way of life?
So, do we keep the law of Moses? I believe we are to keep it. But not always can we adhere to it as we are not perfect and that is why Jesus died for us! So that we MAY be forgiven. If we depended on getting to heaven by keeping the law alone, that would be impossible as we are NOT perfect and we fall short of the glory of God. So...Jesus came to forgive us but does it mean that we shouldn`t TRY. Does it mean we can ignore the Law...GOD FORBID!
Totally agree with you Lowly....God did not do away with the Law he only fulfill it.
For instance tithing in the old testament does not mean we should not give it only means we are not punishable by the law if we don't have it to give because Jesus paid it all.
Now we can freely give out of love and not out of obligation.

All the love in Christ, Madam Anta There is no greater love than this than he who lays down his life for his friends. Now are you willing to lay down your life for your friends?
